What is the role of a Machine Operator?

Machine Operators are responsible for operating, controlling and maintaining machines in a manufacturing or production unit. Other than that, they are also required in filling and packaging units, and all those units which require the use of heavy machinery.
Generally, the candidates may not be required to have an advanced level education unless you are hiring them for operating high-duty machinery. For medium-scale industries, a high school diploma may be sufficient. Experience is preferable but not required since the candidates have to take on-the-job training afterward.
In addition to the technical knowledge, the most important qualities of the Machine Operators are teamwork, safety regulations, and quality control. To assess the candidates for these qualities, use the following Machine Operator interview questions. Operational and Situational questions

  • What are the three steps you should perform before starting the production cycle of a product?

  • Suppose a machine develops a fault but your manager asks you to repair it after it has produced the daily quota of production. What would you do?
  • How do you ensure the quality of production during your job as a Machine Operator?
  • Suppose one of your colleagues have not been acting on the safety regulations lately. Would you talk to him or inform the manager?
  • Suppose two machines develop a fault at the same time. Machine A is easier to fix but machine B contributes more to the daily production quota. Which machine would you repair first, and why?
