Photo Editor Interview Questions

Photo editors create web publications and photo content in print as well as manage teams of content writers, designers and photographers. They could work for advertising agencies, magazines or websites. Like any other position, be clear of what you are looking for in a photo editor before you start interviewing the candidates.

As per your requirements, your ideal candidate might not need a lot of editing experience, for example, they may be a great photographer interested in learning new things. In this case, you should ask questions that help you in assessing their creativity and capability to work in a team. If you have web-only content, make sure that your candidates are acquainted with social media and digital technology. For the best results, prepare your questions carefully according to the role.

For editorial roles, like any creative role, use portfolios of work samples to start the conversation. Consider candidates whose previous work samples are relevant to the type of work you want to create.

  • What is your approach when it comes to giving constructive feedback to the team members and motivating them to do well?
  • Do you have any suggestions for our upcoming projects?
  • How do you use social media to complement your work?

Behavioral questions

  • What was your approach when creating this project mentioned in your portfolio?
  • What was your role in your previous team? How was your tuning with other team members?
  • What things do you keep in mind to guarantee timely completion of the project?
  • What are your references when starting a project?
  • Tell me about your favorite project in your portfolio.
