Receptionists are responsible to make a positive first impression with a company’s external contacts while handling the front lines of its communication. Considering the nature of their job, Receptionists should be highly customer-oriented and should possess excellent multitasking skills. They must know about the designation of each and every employee of the company so as to help them solve their issues by determining the communication hierarchy. They must also possess a sound judgment needed for screening guests/calls and for controlling the access to company’s employees from its external contacts.

The experience required for this position depends on the nature of the job, so you have to decide whether you are in need of an experienced individual or you can just train a newbie to do the job as required. In the latter case, you can train new hires by pairing them with an experienced Receptionist. For those who are new to this position, make sure to emphasize that they will be working in a fast-paced environment with high volume of work – the nature of which can be repetitive at times.
