How Much Do Marketing Assistants Make?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, marketing assistants fall under the broader Market Research Analysts and Marketing Specialists category, which had a median annual wage of $78,760 in May 2025, with about 952,700 people employed. Employment in this category is projected to grow 7 percent between 2025 and 2035, much faster than the average for all occupations, with about 82,000 openings projected each year. Since this BLS category spans the full range of seniority from entry level to specialist, an assistant level role should expect pay toward the lower end of that range.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a marketing assistant and a marketing coordinator?
A marketing assistant is typically an entry level, administrative support role focused on market research, content posting, and day to day department tasks. A marketing coordinator sits a step above, usually designing and executing campaigns and requiring prior marketing experience.

What software should a marketing assistant candidate know?
Look for familiarity with a content management system such as WordPress, basic design tools like Photoshop or Illustrator, marketing and CRM platforms, and web or social media analytics tools.

Is a degree required to become a marketing assistant?
Most employers prefer a Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, design, or a related field, though relevant internship or entry level experience can sometimes substitute, especially for smaller organizations.
